Sikshana Spoken English (offline) for Linux laptops (Linux Mint or Ubuntu, 64-bit Intel or AMD) Install or update: open this folder, right-click an empty space and choose Open in Terminal, type bash install.sh and press Enter. The app is copied to the laptop and added to the desktop and to the menu (Education). The installer asks whether the app should open automatically when the laptop starts: answer n unless the laptop is used only for spoken English. No internet and no admin password are needed. On a laptop that already has the app, the same steps update it, and children's progress, the teacher PIN and the laptop's settings are kept. Start: double-click the desktop icon or the menu entry. The app opens full screen in Firefox, with the microphone already allowed. Press Space (or the microphone button) to speak. To close the app, press Close at the top right, or Alt+F4. Alt+Tab switches to other windows. Without Firefox: a terminal window opens. Keep it open while the app is in use; closing it stops the app. The app opens in the web browser at http://127.0.0.1:8765. Allow the microphone when asked. Report a problem: use the "Report a problem" button on any screen. Reports are saved on the laptop and sent to the team automatically the next time the laptop is online. Updates: once automatic updates are switched on, a laptop that is online downloads each new version and starts using it the next time the app opens. If a new version fails to start, the laptop returns to the previous one. To update by hand, run install.sh from the new version. Either way, children's progress and the laptop's settings are kept. Log file: ~/.local/share/sikshana-spoken-english/logs/app.log Settings: ~/.local/share/sikshana-spoken-english/config.json (config.default.json lists every setting). Remove the app: bash ~/.local/share/sikshana-spoken-english/uninstall.sh (this also deletes all progress).
